Carol is a master clinician and vocologist, having spent over 35 years in the field of Speech Language Pathology.  She has owned her private practice since 1980, following her position as a tenured professor in the Communications Division, Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University.  In that capacity, she taught future Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf and Audiologists.  She also taught graduate students at the University of Texas at Dallas, specializing in Voice Disorders. She is a member of Special Interest Group 3 of the American Speech and Hearing Association. (asha.org)    Today, Carol's private practice dovetails with her colleague, Dr. Wayne R. Kirkham, Otolaryngologist and founder of the Artistic Voice Institute, Medical City Dallas.

Carol works with adolescents and adult patients who demonstrate voice disorders and speech differences and consults with parents of school-age children regarding their annual ARD/IEP meetings. Speech therapy specialty areas include vocal nodules ("singers" nodes), spasmodic dysphonia (www.dysphonia.org) , nasality, plica ventricularis, childhood and adult stuttering, adolescent language, articulation, and processing problems. Speech therapy is designed to expedite learning to avoid long-term therapy.  She and Dr. Kirkham work together to effect vocal improvement in a reasonable amount of time.  Carol's speech therapy goal is to teach patients speech and vocal management so they can facilitate their own learning without relying on continual therapy and its associated costs.

ARD/IEP consultations include a review of the annual goal, benchmarks, and an evaluation of therapy progress.  Carol explains to parents their options, as dictated by law, and she makes suggestions regarding length of therapy to expect, prognosis and questions to ask during the ARD/IEP meeting.  The result is an informed parent who is confident in their ability to participate in the annual ARD meeting.

If you're looking for a therapist who is experienced, knowledgeable and stays current in her continuing education, call Carol Rommel.  She can guide you and provide you with therapeutic direction and give you honest answers to your questions and concerns.  E mail her at carol@carolrommel,com or call her at 972.566.4844.
